Guwahati April 20, 2008: On April 20, around 0500 hours, 1 (one) unidentified KLNLF activist was killed in an encounter with Police/Army at Thekerajan under Bokulia PS in Karbi Anglong District. 1 (one) AK-56 rifle, 3(three) AK-47 rifles, 1(one) 5.56 rifle with USGL grenade launcher, 1(one) US Carbine, 1(one) single barrel grenade launcher, 1(one) .303 rifle, 10 (ten) magazines, 234 rounds live ammunition, 29 (twenty nine) geletine sticks, 10(ten) detonators, 4(four) meters cortex etc. were recovered from PO.

Civilian killed in cross-fire
Guwahati April 14, 2008: On April 13, around 1800 hours, 1 (one) civilian who was caught in between cross fire in course of an encounter between Police/CRPF and ULFA extremists at South Himpara under Moranhat PS in Sivasagar district sustained bullet injuries and succumbed to it on the spot. One grenade, 8 (eight) rounds of live ammunition of AK series, 13 empty cases, 3 (three) mobile handsets etc. were recovered from the PO.

Guwahati April 12, 2008: Today, around 0900 hours, one ULFA extremist was killed in an encounter with Army at Upper Dihing Reserve Forest under Digboi PS in Tinsukia district. One pistol with 1(one) magazine containing 1 (one) round ammunition were recovered from the PO.

Guwahati April 12, 2008: Today, around 0630 hours, one NDFB activist was killed in an encounter with Police at Diphu town in Karbi Anglong district. Two grenades were recovered from the PO.

Guwahati April 07, 2008: Today, around 0730 hours, one DHD(J) extremist was killed in an encounter with BSF personnel at Dismai Hadi under Dihangi PS in N.C. Hills district. One SLR with 4 (four) magzines and 82 rounds ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Guwahati March 17, 2008: In the night of March 16, around 2345 hours., one ULFA linkman sustained injuries in a bomb explosion at Sonari town under Sonari PS while carrying bomb. After sometime, another bomb was also recovered by Police/CRPF near the PO and subsequently defused by Army bomb experts.
       Again, around 0015 hours of today (March 17), another bomb blast was triggered by ULFA extremists at Gaurisagar under Gaurisagar PS in Sivasagar district, but no casualty/injury has been reported.

Guwahati March 16, 2008: On March 15, around 2345 hours, 5(five) persons were killed and 46 (forty six) persons including 4(four) Police personnel sustained injuries in a grenade explosion caused by ULFA extremists at Jonai Bazar under Jonai PS in Dhemaji district.

Guwahati February 22, 2008: On February 21, around 1900 hours, ULFA extremists shot dead one person at Boramechai village and around 1915 hours, shot dead another person at Sarumechai village, both under Kakapathar PS in Tinsukia district.

Guwahati February 19, 2008: Today, around 1200 hours, 4 (four) labourers of Vinoy Cement Ltd. at Umrangso were killed and two others sustained injuries in an indiscriminate fire by DHD(J) extremists in N.C.Hills district.

Police Accountability Commission constituted
Guwahati Jan.10 :- As per directive of the supreme Court of India to the state Govts. to adopt their own Police Acts, the Assam Govt. has enacted the Assam Police Act 2007, which has come into effect from Sept. 18,2007.

Subsequently as per section 70/71 of the Assam police act.2007. the state Govt. has constituted the State Police Accountability Commission with the following members - Chair person – Justice (Rtd) Dhiresh Narayan Choudhury, Rtd. Judge Guwahati High Court. Members respectively are former D.G.P. Deepak Narayan Dutt, Mrs. Jahanara Saikia, Rtd professor, Handique Girls’ College and former Commissioner and Secretary to Govt. of Assam Dhirendra Nath Saikia.

The commission will enquire into public complaints supported by sworn statement against police personnel for serious misconduct either suo-moto or on a complaint received from any of the following- the victim or any person on his behalf, the National or State Human Rights Commission, the police and any other source.

The Commission has been given the power to initiate enquiries on complaint of serious misconduct of Police personnel of the rank of Constable to the DGP. In all cases direcly enquired by it, the Commission shall have all the powers of a Civil Court trying a suit under the code of Civil Procedure, 1908.

The Commission had its first sitting on the Jan 8, 2008.
