Debating
Competition on Human Rights
Guwahati,
Feb 19 : The Assam
Police has organized a series
of debating competition on Human
Rights issues for the 4th consecutive
year.
The final round of the competition
was held today at the Conference
Hall of the City Police reserve,
Guwahati. The subject of the
competition was " Advocacy of
human rights is not an obstacle
to effective policing."
Total 22 finalists, selected
from district and Zonal level
in phase wise, took part in
the final competition of which
10 spoke in favour and 12 against
the motion.
Inaugurating the competition
Shri Kuladhar Saikia IGP(TAP)
dealt with matters related to
human rights.
Shri R.C. Tayal, IGP(APHC),
was the Chair person of the
jury while Shri Adeep Phukan,
Editor Adinar Sangbad and Ashok
Kumar Das, IPS (Retd.) were
present as Jury members.

TAP Range, Constable Pranab
Bora, 3rd APBn and Head Constable
Diganta Saikia , Jorhat DSB,
both from Eastern Range and
SI Chandra Kanta Hazarika, Barpeta
Dist of Central Western Range
secured first, second, third
and fourth position respectively
in the competition. The Eastern
range received the Best Range
Award.

Garden award to DGP office
Guwahati,
Feb 18 : The
office of the Director General
of Police, Assam, Ulubari has
secured first position in the
3rd North East Regional and
14th State Level Horticultural
show -2008. The show was organized
jointly by the Agriculture Deptt,
Directorate of Horticulture,
Assam Horticulture Society and
Agricultural Marketing Board.
The show was held from Feb 10
to 14, 2008, at the Assam Engineering
Institute Playground, Chandmari.
The DGP office has secured first
position in Division K, Best
Garden (institutional) competition.
ASSAM
POLICE ANNUAL SPORTS MEET
Guwahati February 15 : TThe 20th Assam Police Annual Sports Meet, 2007 is going to be held at Police Training College, Dergaon from 19th to 25th Feb,2008. There will be different Games and Athletic events where around 50 contingents from different districts and battalions of Assam are expected to be participated.
The games to be held are Football, Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Kabaddi, Tae-Kowando, Karate, Boxing and Power lifting. Athletics for men and women are 100, 200, 400, 800 metre race, 4X100 metre and 4X400 metre relay race, Shotput, Discus, Javelin throw, High Jump and Long Jump. And athletic for men only 1500, 5000, 10000 metre race, Hummer throw and Triple Jump.
ONE ULFA KILLED IN ENCOUNTER UNDER SIVASAGAR PS
Guwahati January 11 : Today on 18-01-2008 at around 1 A.M. an encounter took place in between joint team of Sivasagar Police and Army with some ULFA extremist at Mogaanagaon under Sivasagar PS in which 1 (one) ULFA cadre died on the spot. Security forces recovered 2 Nos. Hand grenade, 2 packets explosives, 3 Nos. detonators, 1 table clock , one 9 V battery and some incriminating documents. Latter on killed ULFA cadre is identified as Arindom Kakoti, S/O Chandreswar Kalita of Vill-No-1. Kathpara Gaon, PS & Dist. Sivasagar.
POLICE
RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE
Guwahati
January 9 :
at about 9.30 pm on 8/1/08 information
received from reliable source
that one Maruti Van bearing
No. AS04-F-3557 was stolen away
from Simalguri and it was brought
towards Anaky Bosti (Nagaland)
via Geleky PS area. Immediately
O/C Geleky PS with his staff
followed the vehicle and found
the said Maruti Van near Anaky
Bosti inside the jungle of Geleky
Reserve Forest in an abandoned
condition. The Police searched
the said abandoned vehicle and
was found locked. The O/C then
sent message to his 2nd Officer
to call mechanic to carry the
said Van. After a few minutes
Police saw 3 persons coming
towards the vehicle and while
Police approached them, they
fired upon the Police party,
they ranaway and took shelter
in the jungle. Police immediately
opened fire in retaliation to
stop them to escape as a result
two persons received injury
on their bodies and one of them
could manage to escape under
the cover of darkness. Police
searched the body of the injured
persons and recovered one Revolver
with 3 rds. Live ammunitions.
Police sent both of them to
Civil Hospital, Sivasagar for
treatment. Police also identified
the injured persons as (1) Shri
Chitra Ranjan Boruah (30 yrs)
alias Kuli, S/O Lt. Ganesh Boruah
of Dalakaqharia gaon, PS-Geleky
(2) Shri Ranjan Dey (30 yrs)
S/O Lt. Sunil Dey of Dimapur
Natun Bosti, PS and Dist. Dimapur,
Nagaland. They confessed that
they have taken away the Maruti
Van from Simalguri on hire and
after killing the driver of
maruti Van at Kaliapani Jungle
near Sivbari TE under Geleky
PS. and proceeded to Nagaland
through the jungle route of
Geleky Reserve Forest. Lateron
Police recovered the dead body
of the driver from the spot
at 2.00 am on 9/1/08. However,
both the injured persons were
declared brought dead at the
Civil Hospital Sivasagar. In
this connection a case is being
taken up.

THREE MORE ARRESTED IN BUS BURNING
INCIDENT NEAR GOLOKGANJ
Guwahati
October 29 : Dhubri
Police today arrested three
more persons from different
areas of Golokganj in connection
with setting ablaze a passenger
bus near Golokganj in the night
of Oct 27. The arrested
persons are Kartik Rai, General
Secretary AKSRU, Dhubri, Parameswar
Rai and Bajrang Bantia. During
interrogation they confessed
their involvement in the said
incident.
Earlier, on Oct 28, 2007
eight persons were arrested
in this connection viz. Kabin
Ch Rai, Nulu Rai, Prabin Rai,
Madan Rai(Secy AKRSU, Golokganj),
Arjun Rai, Deepak Ch Rai, Ganesh
Ch Rai and Jayanta Rai. They
all are remanded in 4 days police
custody.
The police continued its investigation
and search operation to nab
the other activists involved
in the incident.
COPQUEST - The QUIZ Competition
Guwahati
September 08 : The
Assam Police in association
with Trivia Bytes Creation,
Guwahati is organizing COPQUEST,
2006, a quiz competition, like
previous years on October at
the Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati,
synchronizing with the celebration
of Assam Police Day.
The quiz competition will be
held in two categories. The
QUIZING for School students
and X-quiz me, the open quiz.
The QUIZING will be held in
the morning. School/ College
students up to class XII can
participate in this quiz. Two
- member teams from any school
/ college can take part in this
quiz. Any number of teams from
a particular institution can
participate. Students from two
different institution can team
up for this quiz. The primary
round for this quiz will be
held at 8.00 A.M. in the morning.
The three wining teams will
get cash prizes of Rs. 12,000/-,
8000/- and 5000/- respectively
while all the losing finalists
will receive cash of Rs. 2000/-
each.
The X-QUIZ ME ! will be held
in the afternoon. People belonging
to different are-groups/ work
- groups can participate in
this quiz. A team shall consist
of not more than two members.
The primary round for this quiz
will start at 2.00 P.M. The
first, second and third position
holders will get cash prizes
of Rs. 15,000/-, 10,000/- and
7,000/- respectively, while
the other three losing finalists
will receive cash awards of
Rs. 5000/- each.

Meeting
on Drug Law Enforcement
Guwahati
August 30 : A regional
Co-ordination meeting of Heads
of Central and State drug law
enforcement Agencies of the
North Eastern states was held
on 30 th August, 2007 at the
Police Hqrs. Guwahati. The meeting
was convened by the Director
General, Narcotics Control Bureau,
Delhi and hosted by the Assam
Police. This was the first meeting
of its kind held for the north
eastern states and was attended
by representatives of all the
states. The participants included
representation from all concerned
agencies like state police,
BSF, SSB, Assam Rifles, Central
Excise, Forest, DRI, FSL etc.
The participants held
wide ranging and exhaustive
discussions on various aspects
of drug law enforcement and
issues like trafficking of heroin
, illicit cultivation of cannabis,
diversion and trafficking of
precursors, abuse of medicinal
preparations, and intelligence
sharing between NCB and the
states and among the states
themselves.
There was free and frank exchange
of views and information. Participants
highlighted issues of drug trafficking
specific to their states and
problems related to enforcement
aspects were discussed.
Latest drug trafficking and
addiction trends in the country
in general, and in the northeastern
region in particular, were also
discussed.
The participants felt that the
interaction was extremely useful
and would go a long way in increasing
coordination between the NCB
and the law enforcement agencies
in the north eastern region
and checking the problem of
drug trafficking and abuse in
the region.

Meeting At Assam Police Headquarters
Guwahati June, 4 :
A meeting of the Director Generals
of Police and other Senior Officials
of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland
and Arunachal Pradesh was held
today at the Assam Police Headquarters.
The GOC, 4 Corps and other Senior
Army Officials including Senior
Officials of Assam Rifles, CRPF,
SSB and Central and State Intelligence
Agencies took part in the discussion.
The meeting discussed security
related matters and coordination
between various security agencies
operating in the State. The
meeting also gave due emphasis
on sharing of intelligence between
the States and amongst the various
agencies operating in the State.
New
Building of Pandu Fire Station
Inaugurated
Guwahati May, 29 :
The newly constructed three
storied building of Pandu Fire
Station was inaugurated today,
the May 29, 2007 at Pandu by
Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister
Health and Family Welfare, Assam.
It is to be noted that the foundation
of the building was also laid
by Dr.Sarma on Feb 8, 2005.
The inaugural function of the
building, constructed at a cost
of Rs.46 lakhs, was graced by
Sri A K Mallick, Director State
Fire Service Organisation, Sri
Jali Ajoy Kumar, Dy.Director
SFSO, Sri Apurba Jiban Baruah,
S.P. SFSO, Sri Kamal Dey, Dy.Mayor,
GMC.
The Pandu Fire Station is strengthened
with 32 officers and firemen
and 4 nos of Fire tenders. There
are total 52 Sanctioned Fire
Stations including Pandu and
31 Ad-hoc Fire Stations in Assam.
The total strength of the State
Fire Service from Director to
Fireman is 1297. Total appliances
and vehicles of SFSO under operation
are 428 of which portable pump
167, Trailor pump 8, Water tender
pump 95, Mini Water Tender pump
81 and Foam tender 12
Guidance
for Higher Studies
Guwahati May, 29 : The
Assam Police Wives' Welfare
Association (APWWA) is going
to help the children of Assam
Police personnel who have successfully
completed HSLC/HSSLC or any
equivalent examinations in 2007
and desires to persue higher
studies inside or outside state.
The APWWA will provide necessary
guidance and also render assistance
in procuring forms. The children
who desires to avail this opportunity

Meanwhile Smti Deepa Neog, Secretary,
APWWA has written a letter informing
