INAUGURATION OF TOT & OT: A COMPONENT OF PROJECT AASHWAS
 

His Excellency the Governor of Assam Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S. K. Sinha, PVSM has inaugurated the "Training of Assam Police personnel on Community Oriented and Child Friendly Policing" on 3rd September /2002 at the Conference Hall of NIPCCD Guwahati, Assam. India. Shri H.K. Deka, IPS, then DGP Assam and Chairman of Project Aashwas, Shri P.K. Bhattacharjee the Regional Director of NIPCCD and Ms. Carrie Aure of UNICEF spoke on the occasion. Senior Assam Police officials, distinguised guests of Guwahati and the participants of the training programes were the part of the amongst gathering. Immediately after the inauguration of the programe, the 1st TOT has commenced at the same venue wef. 3/9/2002 to 7/9/2002.

 
POLICE TRAINING ON COMMUNITY ORIENTED AND CHILD FRIENDLY POLICING:
 
AASHWAS has identified the National Institute of Public Co-operation and Child Development (NIPCCD) to develop a detail syllabus for training of the policemen

The Training on Community Oriented and Child Friendly Policing at NIPCCD has been going on in full swing.

So far, 5 courses of Training of Trainers' Pool have been conducted. Out of five courses of TOT 4 Nos. of batch conducted at NIPCCD, Khanapara, Guwahati. and One batch at PTC Dergaon.

35 (Thirty Five) Nos of batchces of Orientation Training on Community Oriented and Child Friendly Policing has already been conducted at NIPCCD, where 1072 nos. of Nos. of Police personnel in the rank of ASI, Sub-Inspectors of Police, Inspector of Police, and Dy. S.P. (Proby) have undergone training.

In addition to the set course, new inputs like stress management by Prajapati Brahma Kumari Iswariya Vidyalaya, role play and learning by enactment and interface with media were introduced.

As per feed back given by the trainees themselves, the entire arrangement of training accommodation and free food etc. have had very salutary effect on the trainees.
   
Methodology of Police Training
   

This training programme mainly comprises of interactive sessions and is participatory in nature . Specific forms of presentation are:

  • Lecture cum Discussions.
  • Group discussions and exercises.
  • Role Play.
  • Simulation Exercises, Case Presentations.
  • Video films.
  • Visit to SOS children village.
  • Training inputs.

  • Situational analysis of children in India in general and in Assam in particular with special emphasis on disadvantaged groups.
  • Trend of violence in Assam.
  • Physical and Psychosocial needs of children.
  • UN CRC and its ramifications.
  • Human Rights concerns in policing.
  • Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
  • Impact of insurgency and conflict on children in Assam-Case studies.
  • Rehabilitation and Social Reintegration of Child Victims.
  • Communication, counselling and negotiation skills for Child Friendly Police.
  • Community Policing.
  • Interpersonal relationships at workplace and team work.
  • Intervention with abused and traumatized children.
  • Training methods and skills etc.
  • Stress Management etc.
  • Interface with media.
